IMG_3236Chris took some friends to the airport this morning and called to say he was stopping on the way home to take the children out for breakfast. I had costumes to make, costumes that I swore up & down I would not be finishing at the eleventh hour. The day was mine (and much needed!) The boys decided to carve pumpkins when they got home and there was the inevitable overheard conversation about the 'puking pumpkin' from the patio which minutes later caused Henry to run into the house in a frenzy "I need the bag of pumpkin guts!!!"  The costumes were finished a few hours ahead of time, phew, so… what were the little ducklings you ask? I introduce you to R2D2:IMG_3250Henry is totally into robots right now. He'd been swaying back & forth between being Wall-e and R2d2, and in the end, R2D2 won. I was glad, R2D2 seemed so much more doable than Wall-e. And Kate, well, she went as a grumpy garden gnome (and played the part oh so well)IMG_3251She has been sick and grumpy for the last few days and there was no way in h-e-double-hockey-sticks that hat was staying on for longer than 2.5 seconds. Last minute I decided to not use the previous flowers I posted about, but ones that were much bigger, which I ended up liking a lot more. And a little basket for gathering her treats. Too bad I forgot it and left it at home. Boo on that. Good thing we had a perfectly good gnome hat that was not being used. Mosaic92840fa581713700185ee654e5cbf0e585ce3a3c So there you have it, R2D2 & Grumpy Garden Gnome:IMG_3247I'm quite partial to them. They were troopers in their costumes. Henry loved the tights. I think next year we'll just send him out in tights & a turtleneck. He'd be happy as a clam.  After the trunk-or-treat at church we drove though some local neighborhoods and Henry got out a few time to trick-or-treat.IMG_3272

I love this image so much:IMG_3280The little R2 silhouette, and those skinny little legs, oh I love this boy. IMG_3271

    So fabulous!!
That Miss Kate …. good thing she has a happy mother who can love and cajol her out of grumpy-dom. She seems to have a semi-permanent address there.
Henry’s costume is amazing. I love those little legs.
Get some rest, darling, and I’ll see you in a few weeks …

I didn’t even think about Wall E….my little girl should have been Eve…she is obsessed with that show. Alas, a cowgirl costume was in order!

No wonder you had last-minute sewing… you worried about perfectly adorable flowers on the gnome dress to make new ones! The costumes are adorable, of course. Love the bushy eyebrows on the hat, no matter how long she wore it. As long as you got a picture, I think it totally counts. Hope you can put all projects aside and just take it easy for awhile. (Seriously… needle and thread DOWN, feet UP!) Thinking about you!

The costumes are fantastic! I love the grumpy little gnome – too cute! I think that the R2D2 costume is stunning. I think I’d prefer to make that than Wall-E too!

kate’s is so adorable. take heart– my henry was a grumpy one for the first few years and now he’s only grumpy sometimes.:) i mean when he’s been sleep deprived or sugared up– but it used to be most of the time. perhaps miss kate will grow a more cheerful disposition in time?
how soon is that baby coming? we’re going to be down south this weekend (staying in dana point) and would love to get together with you guys on saturday. is it possible???

I will have to say Lindsey, that Olivia’s costume from a few years ago was a VERY CLOSE runner up. I think I’m gonna save that one for next year : )

Connie- it was actually quite easy- just a bunch of felt squares- it came together quickly, too! It was a bit cumbersome, though- next year must do something easier to wear!

Morgan you are frickin’ insane. What are you DOING making costumes that involved (if awesome) at this stage of the game?? I’m not even pregnant and could barely manage the e-z pirate pants I sewed for Kathryn. You need a vacation! 🙂

These costumes are great! My son would have loved it if I would have some up with the R2D2. Star Wars is very big this year for him-maybe next year. In addition, I love the garden gnome!! My daughter will be 7 next year, do you think I can persuade her to be one?

do you have a tutorial or templates for the R2D2 costume? My son wants to be R2D2 this halloween and I’ve never been a fan of Star Wars and I’m not quite sure where to begin as far as making his costume…..
