Bits and pieces of Fall

IMG_3139 Me and my brother, Matt (a.k.a. one of the best substitute papa's to have around when the real one can't be there) took the children on a Sunday drive around the Alpine Loop this afternoon. I was worried we might have missed the best of it as it was a bit bare at the top, but as we rounded down to AF the colors got more & more breathtaking.Mosaicc90ee1d7fd78cc16444250fc1603a4dc1fc2ce42 As the seasons change, I've been thinking a lot about the changes our little family will be experiencing in the next few weeks. Thinking about how adding another child can split your attention even more. Thinking about how I will be able to give them all they need making sure that days aren't spent just going through the motions. I've been thinking alot about this quote:

"Above all else, children need to know and feel they are loved, wanted,

    I wish you the best Morgan! We just made the jump from two babies to three (now their ages are 4, almost 3, and 3 months), and I will tell you that it is such a challenge, for me at least. Not the love part, because obviously it isn’t a challenge to love your children, but lately I have felt like I just don’t have enough arms to hold everyone, and it breaks my heart. Long term, and even short term, I don’t think my kids feel any less LOVED, so that’s good, but this mama certainly feels stretched thin right now! Hold those babies all you can, and try to grown an extra set of arms before the baby is born 🙂

    Thanks, Morgan, that quote was what I needed to read this morning. We just added a second son to our family … the boys are exactly 12 months apart! … and I am feeling the “pull apart” and the “chaos” these days. Wondering how I’m ever to give enough love and attention to both.
    Which is my best and most perfect and most needed job to do.

    Thanks for the quote. I think the hardest part of being a mom is the feeling of constant failure…failure to do all the laundry/dishes, failure to get the kids bathed and in bed on time, failure to keep my cool and not pull my hair out (or theirs…j/k, etc. But if I just make my goal to love them and show them I love them all day, then I have succeeded..right?

    What a beautiful weekend to get out and see the fall leaves of Utah. I’m so glad you did.
    As far as adding another child in the mix, I don’t have alot of experience in that since I only have one but I still feel tugged in many directions as a single Mom who works full time. I have learned that you just can’t do it all and the children are most important. After a long hectic day, sometimes Philip (my son) and I just cuddle before bed…which is amazing because he is 12 but we both reconnect and share our love. It builds us both up.
    I have no doubt you will handle a third child with great finesse’. Just the fact that you are aware of their needs is half the battle. You are amazing!

    The leaves look amazing. I’ve seen quite a few beauties around Ohio too but not all of the trees are working their magic. Soon enough! Time to sit back and enjoy autumn before winter rolls in & stops at a grinding halt. Yuck.

    Thinking all the same thoughts that you are (though I have much further to go). It is good to relate.

    It is hard to adjust to 3 kids, but you will do it great. Kids are such a blessing! Good luck with the little one. We will have to get together and do lunch or something, on one of your visits to Utah.

    As the mother of five (soon to be six in a few short weeks) I can add that you are not the only one providing the love and attention. They have each other too and those sibling relationships will continue when you aren’t around anymore. Love never divides, it only multiplies.
    Beautiful foliage, I love autumn!

    morgan, i want you to know that i read this post a couple of weeks ago but didn’t have time to leave a comment then. but that quote by e.t. benson has stayed with me. i love how you said that even when you are overwhelmed you can at least do that much–make your children feel wanted, loved, and appreciated. such a good perspective. when i am overwhelmed, how quickly i turn into a crabby beast and take it out on my children. but i’m trying to remember that this job is more important than anything else on my to-do list. thank you.
