So you'd better look out. We are here. Henry's been sick for 2 weeks. We discovered on Tues. that he's got an ear-infection. Kate hasn't pooped for 5 days. You know that blog content is slim pickins when "poop" is used in back-to-back posts. He's also been talking in non-stop rhyme, fyme. What do you want to do, foo? Give me some milk, filk. I'm hungry, fungry. It was all fun & games until he got a hold of a sucker….

Amid all the internal distress plaguing the young ones, I have been doing a lot of sewing. The above superhero cape for instance. 'Cos every boy needs one, right? I made ones for the neighbor boys upstairs, too. Not all superheros need work alone.

Henry picked this fabric out (shocker) last Christmas. I finally decided to make him a small blanket/quilt as he's taken to pulling Kate's off her while she's sleeping (mostly late night car rides home- when he just wants a blanket, too). It's just big enough to cover him. Perfect for the car, perfect for the couch and a great back-up when the superhero cape can't be found. It was small enough that I could channel quilt it on my machine, so I'm feeling pretty proud of myself for that (just don't look too closely). A few more washes and I'm hoping it will get that worn, quilty look on top. I made a yellow linen hat for Kate and skirts…I can't stop making myself skirts. More pictures of that later.

On a different note, I am organizing a "Nie Nie Benefit Sale" to help raise money for Stephanie & Christian Nielson. They were in a private airplane crash on Saturday. They both survived (sadly the flight instructor did not) and are being treated in AZ for severe burns. I will post all the details of the sale in a few days but wanted to throw it out there now so you can get your thinking caps on, because I really need your help. Please be thinking of things you can donate (esp. all you etsy shop owners) to be sold in a  2-day online event in September.  You can follow the Nielson's progress here

More to come…

I figure you know that exclusively breastfed babies can go up to 14 days without pooping and as long as they are happy they are doing just fine, so there’s no need to remind you.
I’m excited for the benefit sale: I hope to have some things ready and to certainly partake as well.

I was just going to tell you the same thing as Carina. With the whole pooping thing. I was all worried with Orson, I called the doctor and she said that is totally normal for breastfed babies. So when Cedric did the same, I wasn’t worried. You inspired me to make a skirt and I did one, I had issues with the pattern so I made my own and I am very happy with it. I plan on making more, when I get a chance. Have a happy day!

I am so glad you’re putting something together for the Nielsens. I have been thinking about them since I heard about the accident and wanted to do something, but I certainly don’t have the following that you do. I would love to participate and donate something, count me in!

My 2nd baby would poop once a week, and it was always a blow-out during naptime and there was much laundry following it…and disinfecting. I don’t know how it would work w/ cloth b/c I wasn’t using cloth dipes at the time.
What kind of material did you use for the cape? I have two little heroes in need of these!

do you know a chiropractor? when our kids went too long without pooping and were uncomfortable, jared adjusted their sacrum and we had almost instant gratification. just a thought.
love the cape. my boys have some that an aunt made for them a couple of years back and they are still wildly popular.
you are my hero. i need to learn to sew.

Michal- I wish I knew a good chiropracter (okay really just wish you guys lived closer so Jared could give me the royal treatment!! I’m still have so much pain…
Carina- For someone (me) who nursed for as long as I did (and did I tell you Henry wants to nurse now that Kate does..) I was unaware that it was normal. You and Amy are such smartie pants.

    Hi Morgan,
Sorry, no baby advice from me. My youngest is now 17 and I’ve forgotten everything I never knew. Time for me to start thinking grandbabies. Time sure flys! Anyway, I don’t have a blog but would love to donate some hand made goody for the benefit. So sad. Let me know what you need me to do. By the way, cute cape and quilt!! No Wonder Woman cape for Kate yet? (tee hee)

Wow! I just found your site today and am so happy to find a blogger with great pictures and writing style that lives close by! I do love mooning over the gorgeous green fields and snowy winter pictures on others’ blogs, but every once in a while, I’d like to find activities closer to home (love your post about the fun kids museum and the observatory. Have a great weekend.

Love that cape! What a cutie.
Ethan has a blanket from the exact same material. (I did not make it for him, however!)
So sad about the Nielsons. My heart breaks for their whole family. You are great to do something for them. Maybe I can get involved by buying something =)

Aren’t costumes for your kids the best? They’re not critical, just thrilled to have something made just for them. And then there creativity takes off. When Ethan was about 4 or so dress up projects took over my other sewing. But it’s worth it to see them wear the costumes even years later. The dog ears were Drew’s favorite. Keep it up.
