Alright, 2 posts in one day. Don’t have a heart-attack. I am totally excited about these. Have you heard of them? gDiapers? I just scored oodles of them tonight and am totally over the moon about it. I have to tell you, I would not consider myself earthy crunchy (neither would anyone I know) but something about these diapers had me totally hooked the second I saw them. I’m not ready to commit to cloth diapers and honestly probably never will, but disposable…did you know they take 500 years to break down? Gads. We used disposable with Henry but lately for some reason I’ve just become so much more aware of the waste that we are creating. Sure we recycle (sometimes) but do we drive the most eco-friendly car? No. We have a long ways to go to becoming more eco-friendly, but I feel really, really good about these. It’s doable for us. Once you get the basic cost of the pants, etc.,. the liners aren’t really that much more than the cost of disposable diapers. They are the perfect mix of cloth/disposable. They are completely plastic-free and can be 1) flushed 2) thrown away or 3)composted (not an option for us here but glad it’s an option for someone out there : ) They will completely breakdown within 50 days. The outer cover is washable/reusable. Plus, they are so smooth and soft and squishy. Our little monkeys bummy is going to look so cute in these. I can’t wait to try them out. Has anyone tried these? Things you liked/didn’t like? I think they are pretty darn awesome.

I love g diapers! I wanted to use them for our last baby. Sadly, my husband said not this time. I’m determined to use them for our next baby. Tell me how they are in practice. I’ve also heard that you can sell the covers after you’re done with kids and you can make some of your money back.

I’ve heard they’re great but don’t use them myself. If you’re planning to breast feed I wouldn’t even bother for the first few month for several reasons–convenience, you’ll be just SO tired (or at least I was), breastfed newborns as you know poop like very 30 seconds! Once they get past the constant poop phase I’d totally do this with my next child!

I saw these right after I trained my last one and was so bummed out! They sound wonderful! I did however do cloth with him part time and it was a wonderful experience, all except trying to chase two two-year-olds and keep up with just the diaper laundry ACK!
Disposable diapers also have chemicals in them that are bad for babies skin, really bad for the girls. Do some research on that it might just excite you more to go green!

Morgs, when are you having this baby? I don’t know anything abut cloth diapers, but they seem very smart. Icould never do it though. I’m all about taking the easy way out! Thankfully, I won’t have to worry about it much longer!

Ah man, I just sold all my G diapers on Ebay or I could’ve given them to you! We used them for our last baby. He is almost 3 now and still not potty trained. He grew out of his G diapers. I have to say we were very diligent about them in the beginning but then got a little lazy toward the end. Its hard because really only Whole Foods and the internet carry the refills and as much as I would like to do all my shopping at Whole Foods I just can’t afford it so I didn’t like just going there for the G’s. Overall they were great, my advice to you is to always have more than one plastic liner in your diaper bag because the poop comes out into them, especially the newborn yellow runny poop.

I fancied myself to be more of an anonymous reader of your lovely blog…until this post. I love my gDiapers! I have a 12 month old little girl and they are fabulous! I use the flushable inserts about half of the time and cloth inserts the other half. I contacted gDiapers to see if they recommended any specific cloth inserts and referred me to a company who makes insert specifically for gDiapers. I am pregnant with my second baby, due in October and excited to start the process again. I have no major complaints, when she eats certain foods like butternut squash it stains the liners semi-permanently. I also moved her up in sizes before they recommended because she has a lot of chub.

I have a friend who used these and LOVES them. I think they sounds pretty cool and the diaper covers are oh so cute.

Oh, I am jealous! I tried to talk the hubster into using these…no luck though. Maybe next time! I am not really “green” either, but it is something…..every little bit helps, way to do your part!

I raised all 5 of you on cloth diapers INCLUDING the time you and the twins were still in them at the same time and I was washing them in Dreft in a wringer washer and hanging them on the line to dry. I was an “Earth Mother” then …. I was green before we knew what green was. Then, I loved folding them into fresh white piles of baby softness.
The conversations then between me and my friends was about pre-folded diapers vs. the kind you had to fold. Of course, being the forward motion woman I was, I opted for buying the kind I only had to minimally fold instead of manipulating multiple times in order to get them in the right shape to wrap around your tiny bottoms.
And they doubled as great burb cloths, wipe up cloths, roll ’em up to wedge between the baby’s head and the car seat cloths, hang them in the car window to block the sun cloths and all around save the day cloths.
I miss those days.

I got some at my last babies shower and used them for a week before her big fat butt out grew the newborn size! I haven’t gotten any new ones, but totally will and I thknk I’ll make my own washable insets! Thanks for the reminder!

These were cool. A friend loaned us these with my last baby. We didn’t stay with them when she grew out of what they loaned us (for cost reasons). So not sure about long term use….
I second the advice about keeping an extra liner around for blow outs in the beginning.

Just read about these in a mag the other day. Sounds great. I will look into them when we have our next… this is not an announcement, just saying.
Also, I’m going to a cloth diaper shower on Saturday. Now I’m wondering if these are the type she’s registered for.
