Morgs_5_years_old_2 Here I am. Circa 1981. 5 years old. I so clearly remember turning 5. I was so excited to be able to hold up one hand, all fingers raised to say that I was "5!" Yee-haw! Being 5 rocks.  But now, I’m the big 3-2. I don’t know if it rocks yet. I’ll get back to you on that. Instead I’m going to share 32 things about ME! Kidding. I’m already bored with that idea…but maybe I’ll share some things that you probably don’t know about it (I’m not convinced that’s any less boring) So here goes:

I have an iPod mini nano (is that what they are called?) I’ve listened to it, maybe, twice in my life. I think there are 4 songs on it. I’ve had it for almost 2 years. I have no use for it in my life. Maybe that’s what I should’ve given away. I used to go walking with Henry nearly everyday, but we were busy talking to each other. Who needs it. I don’t even know where it is anyway.

I totally don’t ‘get’ mySpace.  I just don’t get it.

I don’t know how to text message. I mean, I think if you sent me one, there is a ‘reply’ button so I can reply, but to send one on my own? Fughettabout it. Can’t you just call me? It takes me like 45 minutes to reply. And I can never get the caps to work. My girlfriend Trish once said (while texting someone back) that texting is good because then you don’t have to actually talk to the person. Because she said, you usually don’t want to. Maybe I should take it as a compliment that more people don’t text me.

I have 180 MyCokeRewards Points. (I kinda had to throw that in. I just got an e-mail greeting from them wishing me a Happy Birthday.)

Brace yourself. I really, really don’t like to read, and I’m married to a writer. I wish I did. I think it makes you sound smarter (okay it probably makes you smarter. Sheesh.) I just can’t concentrate on what I’m reading and no, I don’t think it’s a matter of reading something that’s interesting or not. I find my mind constantly wanders and then I have to re-read everything I’ve just read. I realized I spend all my time re-reading. Over and over. Why is this I wonder? Do I have some kind of learning disability? I watch movies anyway. I’m convinced that’s just as good. I’m self-smarted anyway. I don’t want to end up dead.

I am a total night owl. I don’t like going to bed. I have to force myself to do it and I pay for it dearly every morning.  This does not bode well with having kids.

Whenever I’m sewing or doing a project, I usually put a movie in. But it can’t be a movie that is too distracting. I just want to listen to it. That movie is usually "Sleepless in Seattle" or "While you are Sleeping." What’s with the sleeping movies? I have them memorized. "Harold is allergic to every type of Bee." "Remember the Squirrels?" "Don’t" "First, I knocked them out of their nest with a rock. Then I saved them."

I like Super Nanny. Okay, maybe more than like.

Speaking of television. I’ve never seen 24, Lost or Grey’s Anatomy.  I don’t know why this is. The TiVo is set for Dateline and Cold Case Files. I love that show.  I actually watched the Bachelor last night and…I didn’t hate it. The girls crying at the end crack me up. That’s mean, huh?

I was at the bank on Monday with Henry and Chris and we were trying to get Henry out of the car at the same time 2 guys were trying to get into their car next to us. We let them go first and they got in, and while Chris was getting Henry out, the guy in the passenger seat rolled down his window and said, "How much longer do you have?" "Oh, I’m due in 3 weeks…" and he looked me dead in the eye and said, "You,…look beautiful." I wish you could hear his voice (I keep repeating it in my mind over and over. And over) He was so genuine and sincere. I guess that’s the same thing. Regardless, GAH! I almost put my hands on his cheeks and kissed his forehead. Then I looked down and realized he was married. Oh yeah, and I am, too. He looked just like this guy. Just in-case you wanted a visual or wanted to repeat it in your mind as well.

Last year, on my birthday, I decided to start the 365 day self portrait challenge. A photo a day. Of me. I hated it. I think I bailed out after about 125 days. It was just misery. I don’t know why I wanted to do it in the first place but so glad that I stopped.

I just overheard on the news there a new "Pickle Sickle." Like a pickle popsicle. I like pickles. That sounds gross, though.

I think that’s a sign… time to sign off. Big plans for the big day? Not really. Chris has a romantic 18-hour work day planned. Henry and I will probably dabble in the sandbox, do some laundry and walk to Staples to have our printer cartridges re-loaded. It’s gonna be great.

UPDATED: My sister just posted a plethora of pics from my youth. Head on over for a good Wednesdsay laugh!

Happy Wednesday!!
p.s. Did you know I was born on Good Friday? That’s why I’m so awesome. And good.

    Hi Morgan-
I read your blog all the time although I don’t comment too much. Anyway, I have a bunch of comments now! First of all- I love your pregnancy pics, they are awesome and you do look beautiful! And you are a good writer- and funny! I love reading about your life and I absolutely love your craft style. I’d love to see more pictures of your house and decorating style, that is always fascinating to me for some reason. I’m excited that you’re having a girl. I had a baby girl last summer (after having 4 boys) and it is the best!! The clothes rock. You’re such a good seamstress you can probably sew her some adorable little dresses and mini aprons- that would be so cute. Also, I wanted to give you my name suggestions- Cora, Elsa and Lorelai (yes, like the Gilmore Girls, my favorite TV show of all time.)
Ok, that is enough but actually I did also want to tell you that one time I linked to your sister’s blog after her wedding and wrote this long comment but it wouldn’t post for some reason, but I wanted to tell her how cool I thought her bridal pictures were, and I really enjoyed reading about how she met her husband. She seems really cool. Best of luck with everything, I hope all goes well with delivery, etc. (the second one is so much easier than the first- for me anyway)

Happy Birthday! May 32 be fab and wonderful like you! I don’t get “my space” either. I watch the same movies over and over while I am crafting or cleaning. Sleepless in Seattle is absolutely on that list: “You don’t believe in signs…” But I have to say that in my 33rd year I have learned to text. Sort of.

Ok. That scene in “Sleepless in Seattle” where they are sitting around the dinner table is one of the most brilliant scenes in any movie. ever. The writing and acting are excellent. Who doesn’t have an uncle that just got off parole and the Lou Gehrig-historical reference…. perfect! Love that movie, too! My first son’s name will be Jonah because of that movie!

love reading these little tidbits about you.

I LOVE the guy in the car! All pregnant women need someone like this! There’s a guy at my husband’s work, he has 4 kids and is hoping for a 5th, and he LOVES pregnant women. Everytime I go by there, he tells me how cute I look, and how much he loves the belly, and asks me baby/labour/delivery questions, and shares their own stories. It’s great! :0)

I’m struck by how similar you are to me in your descriptions of yourself; and yet you are the same age as my son, who is nothing like me. I guess some things have nothing to do with age.
I think I’d have melted on the spot at the guy’s compliment. Wow, that’s one to tell the grandkids and the great-grandkids. In fact, write that one down in this baby’s baby book if you keep one. A memory worth saving and sharing, for sure.

Happy Birthday to you! Your post reminded me of a similar encouter when I was pregnant with my daughter (15 years ago!). It was my first pregnancy and I was barely showing — I just thought I looked pudgy, really. I was about to get in my car and I stepped out of the way of the car pulling into the empty space next to mine. The driver practically leapt from his car to tell me that I had not been in his way and to add “I think pregnant women are so beautiful.” Loved that.

Morgan, Happy Birthday!!! Pretend that I just sang the song to you and It sounded wonderful and I was right on key. But then you say to yourself, Amy can sing on key? Then you remember that I really can’t sing and if I was there to sing happy birthday to you, it would hurt your ears so I guess we are both better off pretending. Anyway Happy 32, just be glad that your not turning 30 that was a terrible age. Ha Ha I will always be older, oh wait it’s not so cool to be older anymore.
    Happy Birthday!!!

Like “Renna” I am also struck by how almost identical (likes and dislaikes) we are despite being almost twice your age and living in Australia! I don’t have a blog of my own, but yours is one I check regularly after one of my friends gave me a link to hers. Now I spend far too much time reading blogs from all over the world and have learnt SO much from them and the links they provide.
If you are still needing name suggestions, think about “Hannah”. I have 4 children and my younger daughter is named Hannah. I found it in the death notice of a 90 year old not long before she was born.

Happy birthday Morgan (well belated). I loved your list, in fact I have been enjoying your blog for sometime now and it’s definitely inspiring me to start my own… someday… soon… when I find the time… yeah, maybe I’ll just stick to reading yours.
Ozzy is hot and I would have drooled to have gotten such a compliment from a lookalike Ozzy – which is probably EXACTLY why I’m not getting compliments like that.
For the record, 32 sucks. No matter what anyone tells you, anything past 30 sucks. But you learn to deal with it. At least 32 isn’t as bad as 33… July is coming way too fast for my liking.
And last point: I have 14,500 icoke points! Woo hoo… what am I even supposed to do with them?

    Happy Birthday!!! Yea!
I don’t get My Space at all, either, but then again I’ve never even been to the site, so that could have something to do with it. But I don’t even get why people go to the site. I’m a total night owl, too, and hate myself for it every morning! But I can’t help it. I swear there is some internal instinct inside my brain that makes me want to stay up late. And I hate to read, too! I would love to have read all the classics and be able to discuss the latest and greatest, but I just can’t. I always join book clubs hoping they will make me read, but I think I have only ever finished one month’s read. And that was plenty for me.
And congrats on the Ozzy-esque compliment! You ARE beautiful! Compliments like that are even better from total strangers than anyone else because you know they are heart-felt. When close friends and family tell you you look great at 9 months pregnant, you can tell yourself they’re just being nice, but a hot stranger who goes out of his way, well, it’s gotta be true because they have no other motivation. Awesome!

I remember 30 being the best birthday (when I had previously thought that 25 was the best..)
I have taken the day off for my birthday every year since I was 25.
42 better not suck…41 is pretty good, I might add. Be your own “age sucks” judge…things get better if we allow them to. I have had difficult years, but not difficult ages.
love that someone told you that you looked beautiful pregnant. the kindness of strangers is so often truly memorable. we should all be so nice more often.
i don’t “get” my space. my 30 year old sister tries to explain it to me every once in while. i pretend i am listening.
i do not text message & only turn my cell phone on when i’m driving alone for long distances.
Hope you have a wonderful Birthday–!

p.s. The James “Seven” album brings back some wonderful memories for me too. It’s one of DH’s all-timers. He’d crank it every saturday morning as we were cleaning our little apartment in downtown SLC before we headed out to the farmers market. He always played “Millionaires” when we were dating– and still pops it in whenever we head out on date nights or vacations. It’s his “happy tunes”. 🙂 Ahhhhhhh….James.
