Miracle of miracles, I have almost completed the top of Henry’s quilt. But truth be told. I don’t love it. I decided to ditch the turquoise and go for a pale blue instead along with a few other solids. But I was really wanting to love it and I don’t. I think it’s because I loved that woodland fabric so much and it feels so lost in this big quilt. Kind of washed out, no? I don’t know. There is the patchwork in the middle and then a creme border and then smaller 3" pieces that go around the  border. It’s still not big enough for a twin size bed, so I’m thinking of adding a brown solid border around the outside. I don’t know. I think the white border is kind of washing everything out. I think once I get it quilted and washed and shrunken and snuggly and worn, it may start to grow on me. I’m keeping my fingers crossed. Img_0014_2

So I said that I wasn’t going to buy any fabric for this quilt but we decided to have a family outing to Joann on Saturday for some solid colored broadcloth.
And it’s a good thing we did. Enter: Celebrity sighting. So I’m walking to the cutting table and briefly lock eyes with another customer who is getting his fabric cut. ‘Who is that???’ My mind was racing. Got it. It was Phil. Good ‘ole Phil. Awesome. Awesome in more ways than one.  1) Phil is at Joanne’s. Actually that’s reason enough. Do I really need to go on? Okay. I will.  2) You aren’t just at the fabric store, you are at the cutting table. Getting fabric cut. By yourself.  3) You are there with your pre-teen daughter and her 2 friends and you give her a big hug, in the middle of the store. Phil, I always liked you. Now I really like you.

For the March Quilting Bee, we worked on Kathy’s squares. I received the top blue polky fabric  and the diamond fabric in the center. Kathy gave us these sites to use as inspiration and wanted us to  do a variation on a  standard log cabin  square. So there you have it.

Have a lovely Tuesday!

xoxo

Oh I love Phil. So cool that he was at the fabric store. I see what you mean about losing the woodland fabric little and I agree it might be the white that’s doing it. I will say after the quilting and everything it will be better.

Phil at the fabric store! That’s terrific. I love that woodland fabric too… it was the first piece I noticed. so maybe it’s not not as lost as you think right now…

    Phil? Wow!
I’m with Jennifer….it’ll be better after quilting. I really do like it though. Maybe the woodland fabric would pop a little more if you used some of the green or brown as a binding. Just a thought.

At first I thought you were talking about Dr Phil. Ugh. Then I would’ve have said, maybe Morgan and I don’t have that much in common. haha.

I like your quilt. The colors are lovely together. I did a similar quilt and the white bothered me too so I made it a little narrower which helped a lot. What if you added your fav woodland fabric as a wider outer border to get it the size you want. That would give you a bigger amount of the woodland too. Our use that woodland for the backing! It is yummy fabric. It is looking good so far!

    You have all the fun!
The quilt looks great, you’ll love it after the quilting. And if not, whip out a new one. Love the block for Kathy.

AAAAACCCCKKKK!!! You actually saw Phil in person? Like not far away?? OMG. I MUST meet you now if for no other reason than to be able to say that I’ve met someone who stood next to Phil!
Have you read NOW? It’s really inspiring, just like Phil.

Wow girl … you’re pretty much famous yourself now, eh? What a fun and unexpected celebrity encounter.
Only 5 more weeks huh. You can do it. You can do it. You can do it!

Maybe you need to do a little stitchery on some of the plain blocks. Some of Wee Wonderfuls little critters would be cute.

Phil! That’s beyond cool. Love it.
I see what you mean about losing the woodland. I don’t know a thing about quilting, but I do know that the white seems overwhelming.
But thanks to your inspiration I am quilting my very first quilt, by hand, and I love it!

New reader here! I think your quilt is awesome for your son. One idea I had was to quilt the white in a red thread, fancy loopy pattern. It would really make it stand out! I even thought maybe a stitch that would draw the pattern you loved so much out.
Love your blog! Keep it up!

Oh, Phil! I love it when he says, “I’m sorry to tell you, you have beeeen eliminated.” His accent softens the blow. 🙂
