Geez, who knew I would be such a flakey blogger? Life gets crazy sometimes and well, blogging has to take a backseat. So are you up for making some Sweet Pea’s? Grab the kids, pull up some chairs and get ready for some good times because these are a cinch to make. All you need is some colored tissue paper, pipe-cleaners &  scissors. I don’t know that I have a favorite flower. I dig stargazer lillies, poppies, hmm… mostly flowers whose names I can’t pronounce. I usually go for pinks & reds & oranges, but there’s so many good ones out there, it’s really hard to pick a favorite. Sometimes, nothing beats bright yellows & purples at a picnic on a hot summer day.

About 3 years ago, some friends & I threw a baby shower for our girlfriend, Kim. We made oodles & oodles of paper-flowers, and these blooming bags (you’ll have to scroll down the page) which I hung from my dining room ceiling. Speaking of Martha, sheesh! Have you been into your local Michaels? I went a few weeks ago and her new craft line is just amazing. I picked up a handful of things but there was so much more I was secretly lusting after. She’s got great paper & stamps and I especially love all the food packaging stuff.  It’s a very, very fun way to give gifts.

General Supplies:

• 10-12 sheets of multi-colored tissue paper including a few sheets of green for the leaves
• 6-8 pipe cleaners
• Scissors
• Pencil to draw flowers with

For each flower you’ll need:

• 8 leaves (2 1/2" long from point to point)
• 4 small circles (1" around)
• 4 or 5 petals (4" around)

Directions:
Start with the petals. Draw a 4" circle on the tissue paper & draw 5  arches towards the center. Cut  around the perimeter. Cut towards the center as marked. (It’s easiest to lay several pieces of tissue paper down at a time & cut out multiple ones at once.)  For the leaves, draw (2) 2 1/2 " diagonal lines that intersect in the middle like an ‘x’. Round out the edges to look like leaves (as shown in the center of the photo above.) Cut the small circles next, which are 3/4" in circumference.

Once you have the large petals cut out, hold them in the center with two fingers (making sure not to tear) and twist each of the pieces to look like a petal (as seen in the picture on the left.) Once all the petals have been twisted, you are ready to assemble the flowers. Take a pipe-cleaner and bend down a small portion at the top (as shown.) Starting with a petal, gently pierce the center with the bottom of the pipe-cleaner and move to the top. Next, you’ll add 2 of the green leaves, and then the circle. Repeat this process with 3 or 4 more flowers.

 

Voila! Your very own Sweet Pea’s.
