I know you’ve all been sitting on pins & needles wondering how our "Day out with Thomas" experience went. I kid, I kid. It was good. The actual train ride, a bit lame. It was marketed as a "25-minute train ride" which in my mind conjures up images of rolling hills, frolicking, horses, etc.,.  Not so much. It went in a straight line, and I guess when you are only going 2.5 miles an hour, you really only have to travel about 1 mile before you have to go back. Our "Honorary Jr. Engineer" (as his certificate stated) didn’t seem to mind. And we thought he was pretty adorable glued to the window. Everything else about our "experience" was a lot of fun. I would definitely recommend it.  I am sad to report, however,  I had to make an executive decision to bolt out of the rather long tattoo line, and make a b-line for the Sir Topham Hatt line. Henry didn’t mind (something tells me there’s no way in H-e-double-hockey-sticks that he’d let those tattoo people get near him). Fun was had by all.

If you have any Thomas lovers in your home, you can view our set of pictures here. Maybe they’ll make your kids hyperventilate, like they make Henry do.

We went to the most incredible exhibit at the San Diego Museum of Art over the weekend. It was the last day of the: Annie Liebowiz: A Photographers Life exhibit. It was amazing. I have been a long-time admirer of her photography and it was incredible seeing the real thing. She had this amazing collection of magazine photo’s mixed in with her own personal collection of family photos. There was a gorgeous series of her parents in swimsuits (I think they were in their 80’s?) and a lot of pictures taken at the beach under a big striped umbrella. If you click on the above link you’ll see a wonderful photo she took of her brother & dad. The thing that I thought was the most amazing was the contrast between the professional & family photos. I think I  liked the candid family photo’s better. There were a lot that were out of focus and natural and just dreamy in that non-perfect way.  It just made me realize that all my photos don’t have to be perfect (not that they are anything close to that) but it was so endearing to see the other side of Annie. I loved it.

I had never been to Balboa park before, which is where the museum is. It was so gorgeous there. I must make another trip down for more photos.

I need to get my rear in gear… the deadline for the this months "Tie One On" apron club is on Monday. The theme is Rickrack (or Riff-Raff as Chris seriously thinks it’s called). Have a lovely week!

xoxo

The San Diego Museum of Art is beautiful. My husband and I went there years ago and we both loved it. And what a great exhibit to see! I love Annie Lebowitz as well, so I think seeing some of her more personal photos would have been awesome.
Balboa Park in San Diego is just great. There is a lot to do, and the San Diego Zoo is right there. We always went to the San Diego Zoo when I was a kid, and we’ve taken our daughter there when we go to California to visit family. It’s a great zoo, but huge.

Your photos are so lovely! I love the one of Henry most especially. I am so enamoured of the fact that children form such a bond with Thomas and how magical it is for them to see the “real” thing.

I would have loved to see that exhibit. I so enjoy her photos.
I need to get my act together as far as tie one on is concerned too. A sewing machine would help…

OMG – I remember when we took our little boy for “A day with Thomas”. His eyes were almost as big as the rest of his face when he saw Thomas. I thought I was going to cry from seeing the sheer joy in his face!
Glad to see that Thomas continues to enthrall and excite children. My little one is now almost 11 and he will still talk about how great “riding on Thomas” was!

Oooh, I love her stuff…I would have loved that exhibit.
We had to bribe Ethan to cooperate with a weekend photo shoot by promising to buy him James. He is still sleeping with him every night. It’s so cute how attached they get. At some point, we need to get all the boys together (I know Mandy’s son is a huge fan, too) for a Thomas extravaganza.
    Good luck with your aprons!

Sounds like a fun weekend. Evan freaked out while we looked at your train pictures. He is very jealous of Henry! I second Kimberly’s motion that we need to get the boys together for a “train date”, though it may be difficult since we are spread out throughout the country. Oh, when life was easy and we all lived in Boston!

I’m taking my daughter to “A Day Out with Thomas” for the second time next weekend. True, the ride is a bit boring, but she didn’t notice one bit last year. She still talks about it!

Balboa Park pictures! Its so fun taking pictures there. Its very identifiable. I wish we had the Day out with Thomas like in England. I saw some video clips online. Ours are a joke compared to their’s.
