My sister tipped me off to this recipe a few years ago and it's absolutely my favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe. Ever.  The whole wheat flour gives it this wonderfully chewy consistency and you can't even tell it's made with it. I decided to mix it up a little when I made it this week, by adding in 1 cup of oatmeal and reducing the white flour to 1/2 cup. I have also made this recipe using only wheat flour (substituting the white for the wheat) and it turned out delicious as well. The original recipe hails from Allrecipes.com

Whole Wheat Chocolate Chip Cookies
3/4 C Unsalted butter
1 C Sugar
1 C Light Brown Sugar
1 1/2 tsp Vanilla
2 eggs
2 Cups sifted Whole Wheat Flour
1 C Flour
3/4 tsp Baking Soda
1 tsp Salt
2 C Semi-sweet chocolate chips

Directions

Pre-heat oven to 375 degrees. Cream butter & sugars in an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment. Mix in vanilla & eggs. Combine flours, baking soda & salt. Gradually blend flour mixture into butter mixture. Fold in chocolate chips and drop onto a cookie sheet that has been lined with silpat or that has been greased.  Bake 8-10 minutes. Allow cookies to cool for 5 minutes on baking sheets before placing on a wire rack.

Delish! I have been looking for recipes that use whole wheat flour. I haven’t cooked with it much but would like to cook with it more. I will have to make these yummy looking cookies. Thanks for all the info on Ina. She is one amazing woman. A little like yourself! We are missing the Moorelettes. Give Henry a hug and kiss from us!

I just made these today with a few minor changes … I substituted homemade, unsweetened applesauce for about half of the butter (I did 5 tablespoons butter and a little over 1/3 cup of applesauce). I also used rolled oats in place of some of the AP flour (I did approx. 3/4 cup rolled oats and 3/4 cup AP flour). The cookies will take longer in the oven when you use applesauce, but the texture and taste are unbeatable! Making the cookies this way reduces the fat content by about 50% and increases the fiber and protein content … and I think they actually taste better! They were a huge hit with my boyfriend and roommates!

I got excited, and spaced them rather close, and ended up with a big cookie sheet. They look flat and crispy, which I love, so that’s good. I keep sneaking a piece of the hot ones, and they taste very good so far.
The cookie dough tasted better than any other of the recipes I have tried!
My only problem with them is that they’re not cooled down yet!

any ideas to lessen the sugar? Dr. Oz mentioned pumpkin (canned) or bananas in place of some of the sugar. Haven’t tried it yet, so wondered if you have any brainstorms.
