Cool_beansMonday nights sewing class….already so memorable! Where oh where to begin. I walked in and saw about 5 or 6 girls- none of which could have been older than 14. "Am I in the wrong class?" Then I remember I am in the ‘beginner’ class and well, maybe even a little bit jealous that I didn’t take advantage of a sewing class when I was their age. The class could only accomodate about 10 gals, and it turned out to be  a pretty even mix of ages.  The young ones were sweet though- one asked me what a thimble was- and the other held up the pattern (pictured below) and asked "What’s this? Is the fabric in here or something?" She was darling and so so sweet! I am going to LOVE this class.

Then, the best part of the night. Russell. THE Sewing Teacher (and owner for that matter). Russell is…a fast-talking, black converse wearing, ‘cool beans’ saying, self-proclaimed obsessive-compulsive, entirely-self taught sewing teacher who’s favorite color is ‘sparkly’. He majored in dance and pre-dates lycra. (his words not mine). So, to sum it up- Russell is AWESOME. If you couldn’t tell- I was taking notes on Russell and all of his fabulousness. He is too good to be true.

Pattern This. This is what I’m going to be sporting in just 4–weeks time. Jealous? I know you are. It says that it’s ‘Easy’ incase you missed the big red print.  I’m not feeing intimidated at all. Pajama bottoms. Easy peasy…

Morgans favorite part of the night? When Russell brought out this gynormous needle (I’m not kidding I think it was 2 feet long) and matching gynormous thread (at 8" in diameter) to show us the intricate details of how a needle gets threaded.

Note to self: Must take picture of Morgan, Russell and gynormous needle & thread for future post on blog…

Low point of the night- having to get my hips measured for said pajamas while Russel ‘whispered’ the number in my ear. 17 inches. Yes, my hips are 17" bigger than the young pup sitting next me so.  So yeah, that was fun. "I just had a baby"  I say… "oh how old is he?" urgh.. ugh 14 months!!! Not sure when I can stop using that for an execuse- but I’m milking it for all I can.

All in all… fantastic night. Good times had by all. Can’t wait for next weeks class!

    Morgan,
my class starts next wednesday. I can’t wait! I got out my sewing machine last night and started trying to make an apron while watching Project Runway. I didn’t get too far on the apron, but Projet Runway was great! Your post makes me super excited for the class!

I simply MUST catch a glimpse of this Russell character! Giant needle?! Good gravy that’s a riot! Morgs – you are going to love learning how to sew! I remember making my first pair of PJ pants… then I advanced to a sweet skirt I wore to two proms! You will be sewing in no time – it’s so much fun!

What a riot! Thanks for making me laugh. I really needed it today. It is never fun when some elses 10 year old vomits at your house. Enough said. At least I am smiling now.

Oh Morgan, you have an endless amount of talent and it’s so great to see you take on new endeavors and explore the inner morgan that is bubblin’ with so many possibilities. I am sure there are new projects in your future that you haven’t even given thought to. (Like making twin dresses for your twins girls, or something crazy!) You’re an inspiration to so many people! What a great honor to call you my sister and call Henry my nephew and Chris my brother-in-law. I LOVE YOU!

This just sounds like too much fun!
I have to laugh about your “I just had a baby” excuse, as mine is now 2 1/2! My new excuse is, “Well, I’m just going to get pregnant again anyway, so what’s the point!”
