A.k.a. The blogs 2nd anniversary! 2 years it’s been since I started this little blog. It’s really not that long, and it was only a few entries ago that I hit my 200th post, which doesn’t make me the worlds most regular blogger. You know when I started this blog, the only blog I had ever seen was Emily’s. She was my new neighbor and sent me her blog link one day and I thought "Brilliant! I need to get myself one of these!" Henry wasn’t quite a year old yet and we had been living away from family for a long time. He was the only grandchild so you know, there’s a lot of pressure there. I remember e-mailing these huge photo files that just clogged up everyone’s in-boxes. I don’t think that half the people I sent them to could ever open them. So I figured that a blog would be the perfect place for me to post photo’s and people could check in on them at their leisure. So I did it. I started a blog with the only intention of it being a place to post photo’s of Henry. And that’s how it all began. Then I started to wonder how I could find other peoples blogs. I mean surely there were others out there, no? One day I did a blog search (I think in Typepad) for "Craft Blogs" and up popped "Angry Chicken." I thought, and still do, that it was the most hilarious name. "Yes, I’d like to order #12- The Angry Chicken and can I get some lo mein on the side?" And you know how it is, all you have to do is find one blog and then you just start clicking on their links and I started clicking on everyone’s link who posted a comment and their links and their links and then… my head exploded. It was in those early days that I also discovered "Posie Gets Cozy" "Soule Mama" "The Black Apple" "Wee Wonderfuls"all of which still are, 2 years later, just a handful of some of my favorite blogs (I know I’m not alone here.) I just couldn’t wrap my brain around all the creativity out there. It was/is so inspiring. I was completely hooked. AND I’ve just met sooo many wonderful people. Great, great friends. e-friends if you will. I don’t feel like I have a lot of friends in my real life, so being able to connect with people who have such similar interests has really done wonders for me.
I’ve always been interested in arts and came from a family of crafters, pot-throwers (as in ‘on the wheel’) artists, bakers/chef’s, photographers, it was just something we were exposed to early on. The blog became this little creative outlet for me to share my creations and recipes and slowly by slowly it started to evolve into this place that was no longer just a space to post family photo’s and experiences. And somewhere, somehow other people started reading this blog. I don’t even know how or where you came from, but I am so glad that you did. Sometimes I’ll post something and someone will actually leave a comment and I’ll think "Really? Someone has something to say about that?" Every comment still just kind of leaves me in awe. You all have been so generous and kind and thoughtful and pulled me through so many rough times. There is a lot that I choose not to share on the blog, but for what I do, I feel I have been just completely supported and encouraged. I know this blog seriously lacks brilliant writing skills (I’m so jealous of those of you who make your words flow like the wines of Capistrano) and geez, I just realized that my blog banner has not changed in 2 years! How embarassing. And "One More Moore?" That was the best I could come up with?? But still you come. So thankyouverymuch. It makes me want to break out singing that Natalie Merchant song:
"You’ve been so kind and generous, I don’t know how you keep on giving. For your kindness I’m in debt to you And I never could have come this far without you, so for everything you’ve done, you know I’m bound, I’m bound to thank you for it."
I was trying to think of something to do to say ‘thank you’ and one of the random things that has come out of this blog were some opportunities for some of my little creations to be published. I mean who would have thought? I know I mentioned it before, but the Apron book I contributed to last year is finally set to be released on May 6th. I’ve also had the incredible opportunity to contribute to 2 more of their books that will be coming out in 2009 (gads that seems so far away.) So I thought that it might be fitting to give away a copy of "A is for Apron." I feel so bad for asking to leave a comment since so many of you just de-lurked to give your brilliant baby name advice, but if your interested in getting a copy of this lovely book than I’m sorry- it’s what your gonna have to do! Since there are soo many lovely blogs out there, and I know I haven’t even begun to scratch the surface, I want you to post your favorite blogs in the comment section. My sidebar and recipes (and okay banner) need serious updating so share your fav’s! I’ll pick a winner on Tuesday night.
Thanks for all the great name advice. You guys were just right on the money. I can’t believe I didn’t throw it out there sooner! I knew you would just be the absolute best of help- and the names were so great. One of you actually posted my #1 choice (which the Mr. is not sold on) and a bunch of you threw out his number one choice (which the Mrs. is not completely sold on) so we’ll see. We read through all the posts and added names to the ‘master baby list’ for further consideration. I was realizing the other day that it was at a TrashCan Sinatra’s concert in Boston (that I went to 9 months pregnant) when it just came to me "Yes,we are going to name him Henry." Where are the TrashCan Sinatra’s when you need them? And on a side note, can I just say I had a few minutes alone when I went to the market the other night and just cranked "James – Seven" album as loud as the ears (and womb) would allow and want to deem it one of my top 5 favorite albums of all time. I started getting nostalgic and moved from that to "The TrashCan Sinatra’s – Cake" album, which is also in the top 5 (and I think their album "Weightlifting" should be in there, too.) I think some Mazzy Star should be there, maybe DM or Ocean Blue…so many good ones. Did I ever tell you that before James broke up they did a final tour in England and Chris & I flew out to see it? It was brilliant. And now, they are back together. The original band. Andy Diagram. He just rocks the trumpet. New album- still just listening to it, but I think I’m gonna like it.
Anyway- so it’s the blog anniversary today, my birthday in a few days and some weekend fun to round out the week. In the brilliant words of the TrashCan Sinatra’s:
"You came into my life, like a brick through a window and I cracked a smile"
xoxo
p.s. and a special thank you to "Extreme Chocolate Moosetracks Ice Cream" for agreeing to be the cover photo for this very special occasion.
