Thanks everyone for all your supportive thoughts and calls and emails. I received so much great  advice and I have to share 2 things that cracked me up.
I got an e-mail from my dear friend Jill
today, whom I had recently told that I just wanted to "scream," to which
she replied, "…and if you must scream, this is the season to do so!"
Oh, Jill, so, so very wise beyond your years. And Heather who said, "I have no
idea what you are battling and it doesn’t even matter. What matters is
the totally classy and rad way you are going to fight your way out of
it." Okay that made me laugh, thanks Heather. I WISH I could be
totally  classy & rad while fighting my way out of anything!!
I think it just felt so much better to get it out there, off my chest. It was interesting to read about others who said they were in the same place, or recently had been. I’ve been so self-absorbed in everything that’s been going on here that it never really occurred to me that right now, out there, others are struggling too. I know, it’s absurd. I realized, I just need to pull my head out. I just need to serve others. I used to be so good at service and doing things for others, but I haven’t done anything  for so long, I’ve just turned into this little hermit crab. So now, things are a changing. Neighbors are getting cupcakes.

I picked up this magazine while I was in Utah last month and was chomping at the bit to make these guys. There’s a ton of other great recipes in there that I can’t wait to try. Aren’t they a hoot! LOL!  We made carrot cake with cream cheese frosting. Henry and I just delivered them to some neighbors upstairs and we will be out delivering some more tonight. I think it’s just what this little family needs.

My MIL’s birthday was Thursday and so at 9 p.m on Monday night, I decided I probably should make something for us to send. When I first started sewing, patterns were just beyond me, so since then I’ve been coming up with patterns on my own, which is by no means an easier solution. I pulled out the dozen or so apron patterns that I had and decided on this one. Man, it’s so much easier when everything is already measured out for you!! What had I been thinking?  This was Butterick #6567, Apron A, and it came together quite easily, and my MIL is just as much as a Halloween nut as I am, so I hope she likes it! Now if I had mad sewing skills, which I do not, I would SOOO be this for Halloween:

Miss Pumpkin??? It’s beyond brilliant. I want to be her so very badly, but how would I ever do that hair?? (okay the hair should be the least of my conerns..) My recent haircut, which is a short bob, would just ruin the whole effect. And where would I ever find a hat like that? How much yardage would a dress like that take? I fear  I would just wear it all year long.

Oh well, here’s to dreaming!

xoxo

I will forever associate you with Halloween (and endless service, for that matter). You really need to post a pic with your latest haircut. I’m dying to see it.
I saw a birthday party cake made of cupcakes stuck together to look like a large Elmo face. It’s hard to explain, but I thought of you when I saw that, and when I saw this: http://www.surlatable.com/product/547901.do
    How cute is that??

You never cease to amaze me. The cupcakes are darling, the apron, the same, and Miss Pumpkin? So unique, but still so classic. Love it all … and don’t be surprised if I end up just copying it all!

The cupcakes and the apron are so cute!
And I love Miss Pumpkin. I went apple picking a few weeks ago with my sister-in-law and there were a ton of people in Northboro at the orchard. Walking around we found out there had been an Apple Festival complete with a parade that morning. After the parade everyone headed to the orchard to pick apples.
My sister-in-law wondered if there was an Apple Pie Princess for the parade, since that seemed fitting. While we were picking apples, I got a great shot of her with a big smile, holding up an apple. When we got home and looked at the pictures, I declared her the Apple Pie Princess and all she needes was a crown and septre.
Your picture and story totally reminded me of that. Glad you see you’re feeling better! 🙂

They’re precious. What I like about these guys is that they’re not just Halloween specific either.
BTW, I found your blog on Flickr and I’m having fun going through all your polka dot stuff!

Oh, Miss Pumpkin! Sorry to hear you’re in a funk.
May I offer some wisdom from a professional: borrowing from the good Doctor (Dr. Seuss that is)
. . .”Wherever you fly, you’ll be best of the best.
Wherever you go, you will top all the rest.
    Except when you don’t.
    Because, sometimes, you won’t.
I’m sorry to say so but, sadly, it’s true that Bang-ups and Hang-ups can happen to you.
You can get all hung up in a pricke-ly perch.
And your gang will fly on.
You’ll be left in a Lurch.
You’ll come down from the Lurch with an unpleasant bump.
    And the chances are, then,
that you’ll be in a slump.
And when you’re in a Slump,
you’re not in for much fun.
UN-SLUMPING YOURSELF IS NOT EASILY DONE.
. . . You can get so confused
that you’ll start in to race
down long wiggled roads at a break-neaking pace
and grind on for miles across weirdish wild space,
headed, I fear, toward a most useless place.
THE WAITING PLACE . . .FOR PEOPLE JUST WAITING.
    . . . NO! THAT’S NOT FOR YOU!
Somehow you’ll escape all that waiting and staying.
    You’ll find the bright places
    where Boom Bands are playing.
    With banner flip-flapping,
    once more you’ll ride high!
Ready for anything under the sky.
Ready because you’re that kind of a guy!(or in this case gal.)
You are that kind of gal Morgs – you ARE Miss Pumpkin! All my best on the “unslumping.”
    Love you!

I got the Magazine that those cupcakes were in and I made them. I took a bunch over to my daughter and her dorm suite mates. They loved them. The only problem I had was finding the right life savers so I used different colored ones and they turned out cute. People just loved them. So have fun.

Love those little cupcakes and the apron is gorgeous. I’m delurking to say this as I’ve been reading your blog a while but only getting brave enough recently to leave comments! I hadn’t read your Oct 1st post before now but it did sound so sad. Autumn is sometimes a sad time of year I think even if you are not sad about something specific. Whichever it is with you I hope you are heading towards better times.

I LOVE Miss Pumpkin. It’s just those kinds of things that seem to be able to bring me out of a funk. I mean, if someone can declare themselves Miss Pumpkin, surely I can claim to be Queen of Something and feel much better. =)

The cupcakes are to die for!
I agree, dearie, you’ll get through whatever it is that’s going on, and at the end you’ll probably look back and say, “Well, that wasn’t so bad.”
Either that, or what I said, “Oh, man, am I ever glad THAT year is over!!!”
Anyway, I would really love to throw together one of those period civil war costumes for Halloween. “Throw together.” Haha. Like that’s gonna happen.

I hope things continue to get better. You have always been such a service-oriented person that I don’t believe you that you haven’t done anything for awhile. You always made my day whether it be inviting us to a fabulous dinner, a “healthy sack” & some movies to get over an illness, or an invite to an over-the-top Halloween party (and New Year’s Eve party!)! You are the best and I cherish our friendship. Get your house all Halloweened out and dress up as Miss Pumpkin and things are bound to be happier!
